Aisling Heraughty
Aisling is a radio producer and documentary maker based on the North West Atlantic coast. She has produced feature programming for her local station, Ocean FM, for almost twenty years, taking in anything that is sparking interest in the North West. Topics are fantastically varied – ranging from human interest and local heritage to voting systems and women in politics. She is also a leading member of the radio drama production team that has won the New York Festival Prize, the Prix Europa and IMRO Radio Awards in this genre on a number of occasions.
Having kick-started her career, before joining the world of radio, in the area of environmental action and awareness, sustainability remains a key topic of Aisling’s work. She has produced numerous series focussing on links between the natural world, science, climate change and local environmental action. Aisling was Ocean FM’s producer and presenter for IBI’s innovative Ours to Protect series, which saw local and regional broadcasters from across the country reach out with a weekly feature to inform and educate on sustainability topics, champion climate action and promote environmental change. She believes that local radio has a unique role to play here by informing and empowering communities to take charge of environmental action on their own doorstep and continues to develop ideas and programming to promote this.
